Elbow (Olecranon) Bursitis

Visible swelling of the elbow may be caused by elbow bursitis. It occurs when the bursa located at the tip of the elbow, called the olecranon bursa, becomes inflamed and swollen. Pain and tenderness may or may not accompany the swelling. What Is Elbow Bursitis?

What Is Bursitis?

Swelling and inflammation near a joint may be a sign of bursitis, a condition that involves buildup of liquid and inflammation in a bursa sac that cushions a joint. This condition has earned some interesting names over the years: housemaid’s knee, student’s elbow, and tailor’s bottom, to name
